Schools
Plano residents with school-age children have access to one of the nation’s top performing school districts. Twenty-two of Plano’s 57 schools have been recognized by the United States Department of Education as “National Blue Ribbon Schools”. The Blue Ribbon award is bestowed upon schools that demonstrate strong leadership, high quality teaching, solid commitment to parental involvement, and the highest standards.
PISD is rated “Exemplary” or “Recognized” on 28 of 31 student performance indicators in the 2005 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings of all Texas schools. More than 95 percent of Plano’s graduating seniors continue on to higher education. With a 2003-04 composite Scholastic Aptitude Test score of 1,140, Plano ISD was among the highest in the nation for districts with enrollment of 20,000 or more students. The district’s composite score on the American College Test also exceeded national levels.
Plano ISD was selected by SchoolMatch, a national research firm, for the 2004 “What Parents Want Award”. Only 16 percent of the nation’s school systems have been designated for this honor awarded by the nation’s largest school selection and consulting firm. Plano ISD was one of 100 companies, and the only public school system, recognized in the 2003 Info World 100 list for making the best use of information technology to meet business needs for the district’s myPISD.net home network access program, connecting schools and families. Plano ISD was named among the “Top 10 Tech Districts” in 2002 by the magazine “District Administration”.
